Believe it or not, I actually went back to our first article about Peter Berg’s BATTLESHIP…just to see why the hell we decided to give it some run here at AITH to begin with. What I rediscovered? The flick is essentially an alien invasion tale, you know, with big big warships.
So here we are, three months since giving you some extra footage of the film, this time to give you a few more photos of the $200 million board-game adaptation. On deck is Rihanna doing her sexy-tough-gal thing, along with Taylor Kitsch, Alexander Skarsgard, Liam Neeson and Brooklyn Decker. But more than that, director Peter Berg spoke with Movieline and discussed the possibility of BATTLESHIP sequels. Peep it:
“I never go done in one…I’m always thinking, let’s keep going. I love these characters; I love these two dudes [played by Kitsch and Skarsgard]. I love the world they come from, and I loved the idea of the goldilocks [alien] planets and the fact that if there is credible life out there, it’s probably going to be from a planet that shares a similar relationship to its sun that we do to ours, and it’s very possible that it is a form of life that’s relatable to us, that has a neurological system, that has a respiratory system, that has emotion, that has thoughts, that has reasoning capabilities. That’s the tenor of the thread of Battleship. I’m certainly hoping that it’s something that we can explore for a long time.”
Exuberant intent aside, in all honesty the audience will decide if another gaudy quarter-billion dollar board-game film is worthwhile. I’m kind of embarrassed this movie even exists, so I actually hope the film sinks harder than the fleets it features.
What says you?
