More Camp to Come?

A few weeks back I was browsing through the used & super cheap DVD bins at my favorite used DVD store, and I happened upon SLEEPAWAY CAMP 2: UNHAPPY CAMPERS, featuring some chick on the cover with a backpack holding one Freddy glove, one Jason mask, and one Chainsaw. At this point I’d only heard about the SLEEPAWAY CAMP flims, but had never seen any. So on impulse, I pulled a blind-buy with PART 2, and was greatly rewarded, as it featured a sweet mix of 80s slasher, bad fashion, gratuitous nudity and imaginative death sequences. I couldn’t be happier!

Since PART 2, there’s been a PART 3 and most recently a PART 4. Have I seen any more than just PART 2? No, but that doesn’t mean I’m not a fan- I just don’t feel the need to seek them out. When news came out awhile ago that a RETURN TO SLEEPAWAY CAMP was currently in production, I was mildly intrigued- and now I’m stoked as all get-out. Should be interesting to see if this series from the 80s will be able to stand it’s ground some 20 years later- though I can only imagine the fan base that’s out there right now.

The boy’s at BD scored an interesting scoop from a reader, one that has actually been ‘confirmed’ by IMDB (though we all know how ‘reliable’ they can be): after THE RETURN TO SLEEPAWAY CAMP, there’s a SLEEPAWAY CAMP REUNION on the horizon as well! From series creator Robert Hiltzik, REUNION Follows the events of Return to Sleepaway Camp, focusing on the long-awaited return of Aunt Martha as well as Ricky and Angela Baker!

I guess that spoils the surprise that there’s no closure in RETURN.. but hotdamn, a REUNION, featuring all the notorious camp killers in one movie?! I’m so there! Though nothings ‘official’ at this point (and likely, we’ll have to wait and see how the RETURN does), I’m gonna venture out with my psychic abilities and say that this badboy will happen sooner than later… which just gives me enough time to eventually check out the rest of the series.
