(WARNING: THIS ARTICLE MAY CONTAIN SOME MINOR SPOILERS ABOUT DEATH RACE)
I had the chance to see DEATH RACE a couple of weeks ago and found it to be an adequate time-waster, nothing more or less. The action scenes provided the necessary explosions and blood-letting, and everything else was filler – all that’s by design. But at the end of it did I think “I could use another one of these”? Certainly not…
But Tyrese Gibson wouldn’t mind another one, or two or three, as apparently he and some of the other principals involved have been talking about a franchise. He tells Sci-Fi Wire: “We are really anticipating a sequel… Me and [director Paul W.S. Anderson] were just riding over here in my truck watching some clips, … and I was just saying that this film has the formula.”
“I felt like the sequel has been set up nicely. And, for me, just in general, I like doing one-offs, films that feel like there’s only going to be one. But I’m more excited about franchises. You know what I mean? I love the idea that we’re doing something so special that the audience would want to go see another one and another one.”
I guess we’ll find out if it’ll even be considered after DEATH RACE is released this weekend (that lawsuit against it won’t go anywhere, we all know that). Take a moment to read my man Arrow’s (positive) review right HERE!
Natalie Martinez would be reason enough for a sequel, I must admit…
