Well that’s not the only news to hit the net concerning the sequel to the 2005 surprise hit. The Hollywood Reporter also have some updates for the flick, including a distributor, director, and more cast!
Not sure if it was previously announced, but THE DESCENT editor Jon Harris will be taking the reigns on this one. Along with MacDonald and Mendoza (below), the cast will also include Gavan O’Herlihy, Joshua Dallas, Anna Skellern, Douglas Hodge and Krysten Cummings. As most already know, James Watkins penned the script.
THE DESCENT 2 centers on Sarah (MacDonald), who emerges alone from a cave system following an expedition with her five friends in the Appalachian mountains. Distraught, injured and covered in the blood of her missing companions, Sarah is incoherent and half-wild with fear. Skeptical about her account of events and convinced Sarah’s psychosis hides far darker secrets, Sheriff Vaines forces her back into the caves with a search party to help locate the rest of the group. Trapped by falling rocks, the party gets driven deep into the caverns, and as one by one the fate of the missing girls is revealed, Sarah is forced to confront her deepest fears.
Now it states the sheriff ‘forces’ Sarah back in. I don’t know about any of you, but if I just witnessed all my friends being dramatically killed by little deformed creatures in a cave, from which I emerge COVERED in blood, there’s no way in HELL I’m going back in there. So I’m interested to see how this sheriff ‘forces’ our heroine back into hell. And just in case your worried about this flick because the lack of Neil Marshall writing/directing, the man is signed on to produce alongside Christian Colson. So worry not, Marshall is involved!
Celador Films, which handles a lot of indie stuff from the UK, is teaming with Pathe to bring us THE DESCENT 2. Awesome to hear they’re sticking with the indie crowd. We’ll keep you updated with DESCENT 2 news as we hear it.
