More Diary 2 updates

Well this new George Romero zombie flick is gathering significant steam – as well as lots of misinformation. Contrary to what I wrote yesterday, it now appears that this WILL be a sequel to DIARY OF THE DEAD… Mr. Romero spoke with the site SchlockAroundTheClock and gave up the following deets:

“It’ll be about three weeks in [past the outbreak] and it doesn’t start with the people in the mansion [at the end of Diary]. It starts with the blonde who drove away and the national guardsmen who robbed the people. So those are the only characters that return. What it’s about is tribalism. How the internet creates a Hatfields and McCoys situation. It’s on an island, where people have been lured by someone on the net as a safe haven, but really what these guys are trying to do is hold them up at the boat docks. I don’t know if it’s going to be made. The script is in, so we’ll see what happens.”

Meanwhile, over at Movieset, producer Nicolas Chartier revealed this: “We’re shooting underwater zombies… They’re swimming, grabbing people’s legs, pulling them down. It’s a lot of fun.”

Well, all I can say is that I’m still down with the island locale. Maybe I’m a philistine, but I just don’t care about the “internet is driving us apart” angle. I usually love Romero’s subversive messages, but in DIARY’s case it was delivered with much too heavy a hand (and that was the least of the flick’s problems). Let’s just have us a good horror movie with likable characters and gnarly bloodletting – what Romero used to be the master at…
