According to Deadline New York the entire project lies on the shoulders of on Bill Murray. It seems the talented actor quite literally has the world awaiting his decision. This stems from a deal in Murray’s original GHOSTBUSTERS contract that says any film regarding the franchise must have Murray’s OK. But you see that’s not a huge problem because Ivan Reitman and Sony Pictures aren’t interested in making the film without him anyway.
Apparently the current script, which was written by Lee Eisenberg and Gene Stupnitsky and tweaked by Dan Aykroyd, Harold Ramis and Reitman, has just been passed along to Murray and now everyone is holding their breath until the actor gives us his answer. If Murray likes the script then expect things to get rolling on this little diddy immediately! And if he doesn’t… well you can guess what happens there.
So folks that’s basically where we’re at right now. The future of the franchise is once again in the hands of Mr. Bill Murray. Here’s hoping that A) He’s along for the ride and B) the script kicks all kinds of ass. As always, for better or for worse, we’ll be keeping you updated on every GHOSTBUSTERS 3 update that comes our way.
