More join Arfraid of Dark

The Hollywood Reporter announced this morning that Guy Pearce and Bailee Madison are in final negotiations to star alongside Katie Holmes in the upcoming DON’T BE AFRAID OF THE DARK remake, from director Troy Nixey and writer/producer Guillermo del Toro.

Pearce, of course, was the main dude in MEMENTO, and Madison was in a little movie called…. THE BRIDGE TO TERABITHIA. But since she’s only nine, I’ll cut her some slack. I blame her parents for that one.

Based on the 1973 ABC miniseries, DON’T BE AFRAID OF THE DARK goes a little something like this: a young girl moves in with her father and his girlfriend and discovers they are sharing the house with demonic creatures.

Hells yeah! When I was 6 I was pretty sure trolls were living in my neighborhood, I shit you not. Actually, to this day I’m convinced that to be true. Madison plays the little girl fascinated by the creatures, Pearce will play the dad who doesn’t believe in the creatures, and Holmes is all set to play the girlfriend who backs up the little girl’s story.

I’m actually not quite sure how I feel about this flick yet. The premise could go either way for me. It’ll either be a scary flick with bizarre creatures, or it’ll be more family friendly and thus, totally lame. But with del Toro on board, I’m gonna assume it’s gonna rock. Production is scheduled to start next month in Meblourne, Australia. Stick around for more on DON’T BE AFRAID OF THE DARK as we hear it.
