A couple days ago Ammon gave you all a look at the first teaser poster for THE MUMMY: TOMB OF THE DRAGON EMPEROR (right). Early indications tell me they’re going to push this one in an attempt to be a blockbuster, and it probably will be. I’m just not sold. Lack of Arnold Vosloo as badass Imhotep hurts this one’s chances for me. Mind you, lack of Rachel Weisz is also a major bad thing, but the addition of Maria Bello (below) makes up for it.
Speaking of Maria Bello, she recently spoke to MTV and dropped the news that she’s signed on for (at least) three more MUMMY films, stating:
“I don’t know when, but it’s going. [There will] absolutely be ‘The Mummy 4.'”
And apparently she’d like it to take place in the Amazon. Interesting place for a mummy. Other recent news has Luke Ford, who plays the grown up Alex O’Connell, also signed on for more. According to Moviehole.net, this is what he told Australia’s Herald Sun:
“There was talk at one point they might do a spin off series with Alex O’Connell depending on the success of this film… they’re picking me up to be in the franchise, not necessarily taking over it. I’d definitely like to be part of that series if they ask me again.”

Interesting to note the biggest part of this whole franchise is yet to speak on any of this. I’m speaking of Brendan Fraser of course. Can’t wait to see what he has to say, has he also signed on for a whole mess of new MUMMYs?
THE MUMMY: TOMB OF THE DRAGON EMPEROR opens August 1. The synopsis reads: In the Far East, trouble-seeking father-and-son duo Rick and Alex O’Connell unearth the mummy of the first Emperor of Qin — a shape-shifting entity who was cursed by a wizard centuries ago. It’s written by Alfred Gough and Miles Millar with Rob Cohen directing. Along with Fraser, Bello, and Ford, the film also stars Jet Li, Michelle Yeoh, and John Hannah.
