All I know is that some of you will positively loathe me for being extremely excited about the following rumor. So, you’ve been forewarned. For any potential haters, I apologize, but STYD just scored an exclusive scoop stating that Alexandre Bustillo and Julien Maury (the helmers of the brilliant and gory French flick, INSIDE) may be in talks with Bob Weinstein and Dimension about taking the reins on a recently revitalized horror series (courtesy of a man named after the living dead). Okay, enough alluding! You probably already know that I’m talking about HALLOWEEN!!!
Now I’m not really sure what the ratio is from lovers to haters of Mr. Zombie’s re-imaging, but I am totally on the side of the lovers. I was definitely left wanting more after Laurie fired that gun off at Michael’s face and was saddened to learn that Rob was only interested in making one. I thought the notion of another was all but dead, however I did remember hearing that Tyler Man, Malcolm McDowell, and Scout Taylor-Compton (last two below) all had sequel clauses in their contracts. And now, it’s just so nice to hear rumblings of adding onto the re-imaginged storyline (even if it is just a rumor for now).
I’m very curious to see where Bustillo and Maury (two horror visionaries, in my opinion) take things. Would it all just be set at the hospital like the original HALLOWEEN II? Or will they try to get a little more daring and take the characters elsewhere… to another Halloween night in the future? Your guess is as good as mine. I just would love to catch another HALLOWEEN on the big screen. It should seem like a no-brainer. I mean, ROB ZOMBIE’S HALLOWEEN (see Arrow’s review here) was the highest grossing R-rated horror flick since the TEXAS CHAINSAW remake five years ago. And if that crap can get a sequel, I don’t see what’s stopping Dimension. Perhaps they were just waiting for the right duo?
You may have heard that Bustillo and Maury were once attached to the upcoming HELLRAISER remake, but subsequently dropped out. Could it be because they had their sights set on working with another horror icon? To be continued… I hope!
