More names signing on for Kevin Smith’s political horror Red State?

One guy everyone has their opinions about is filmmaker Kevin Smith. I’ve always been a big fan of Smith’s and there’s no denying the man has always been hands on with his fans. There’s also no denying he’s come up with some pretty awesome flicks. Unfortunately lately Smith has been striking out every time he steps up to bat but I’m a long ways away from giving up on him. It’s with that enthusiasm that I’m looking forward to Smith’s dive into horror with RED STATE!

Now we’ve been telling you about RED STATE since I can remember but things are finally starting to roll with this one! Just last week we learned about vetern actor Michael Parks signing onto the project and here we are today with more casting news for you guys! Actually according to The Wrap these names are all ‘in talks’ to star in the film but you know how that goes. So who will most likely be joining Parks in Smith’s political horror? Dermot Mulroney, Kyle Gallner (above), Michael Angarano, Steven Root and Oscar nominated actress Melissa Leo that’s who! I’m sure you guys recognize a couple names in there but it’s nothing to write home about.

Then again it seems Smith is intentionally keeping RED STATE pretty low-key in the names department. Now we know Parks will be starring as ‘Reverend Fred Phelps of the hateful Westboro Baptist Church’ but there’s no word on who anyone else will be playing.

Now how about a little icing on the cake so to speak? To cap off this update we’ve got news from Kevin Smith’s Twitter that RED STATE is set to start filming on September 22nd.
