First up, the remake of Alfred Hitchcock’s THE BIRDS… yep, it’s going to happen, and it’s looking like Naomi Watts is up for the main roll. Nothing’s official yet, but they’ve at least talked with her about it, but without a script (!) or a director, we’ll just have to wait and see if she’s on for sure or not. I’ll be the first to say that this movie is A BAD IDEA. That is all.
The remake of Eric Red’s NEAR DARK is still a go as well, with Samuel Bayer attached to direct. Yes, they really do love Eric Red (who also wrote the original HITCHER). Damn, aren’t all these remakes of the films you love just making you more and more excited? Yeah. Me neither.
And finally, their two original projects, ALONE and THE HORSEMAN, which starts production in a few weeks. Still working on a script for ALONE, but yeah.. it’s on track to be made. At least they’re doing something original here!
It boggles my mind that they have so many projects lined up that still don’t have scripts, as I kind of have it in my mind that a script comes first, then the projects green lighted, and not the other way around. But what the flip do I know? THE HITCHER hits theaters next Friday the 19th, and stick around, as more updates and news on these remakes will be flowing out the woodwork soon.
