Just the other day we heard what Wes Craven had planned for the rest of the SCREAM franchise, or kind of heard, and now there’s word spreading across the net that the franchise may be over?! Bummer!
Alas I suppose it’s a fair option considering the disappointing box office SCREAM 4 scored. Considering the hype around SCREAM 4 this one should’ve banked a lot more, especially considering the thing wasn’t that bad. Hell I dug it, and I’m sure a lot of you did too. In a world overrun by reboots and remakes we had ourselves a rare sequel and flushed it right down the toilet. Well genre loving crowd get ready for more reboots because that’s what seems to rake in the dough.
The folks over at Moviehole did a little digging on the subject and talked to many ‘in-the-know’ people who all said the same thing: “”The Scream franchise will likely end here, at least for the moment.” This includes a source from the studio apparently. It seems the franchise may return in a ‘direct-to-dvd-sequels’ kind of way but the going word is that this proposed new trilogy is over before it even began.
But that’s not all folks. I’ve got even more negative SCREAM talk to pass your way today. The guys over at Bloody-Disgusting got word from a scooper who attended SCREAM 4’s first test screening about what was left out of the final product, and it all sounds like some pretty awesome stuff. Check it:
“The only glaring differences in the two films were the parking garage scene and the crime scene at the girls’ home that died in the opening scene.
The parking garage scene was noticeably extended. In the cut we saw in the screening Sid’s publicist is chased down in the parking garage after the call and killed. (We saw all these shots in the theatrical cut.) Therefore the entire sequence in her car were added later, I presume.
The second is the scene that takes place after Dewey answers to dispatch call to the girls’ home. (The girls killed in the opening scene.) There is a very grisly scene in the living room, with one girl dangling from the ceiling fan and “What’s Your Favorite Scary Movie” written in blood over the mantle. This scene wasn’t too long, but it was very good for establishing purposes, not sure why it got the cut. (Ha, see what I did there? ;))
Also, the opening scene was almost entirely different. Marnie’s death was completely chopped up. There is an extension of the scene where she has a conversation with Ghostface before dying.”
