Just yesterday Mr. Ammon kindly gave us all the heads-up that Eli Roth was indeed planning on giving us a full-length film version of his hilarious GRINDHOUSE mock trailer, THANKSGIVING. For me, this is fantastic news because I’m just a ridiculous fan of slashers set around the holidays (especially when they add dashes of humor). And if the T-DAY trailer is any indication, we’ll be in for one hell of a “bird-baker”!
The folks over at Dread Central seem to share my affinity and kindly did some extra research on the subject. They got word from Mr. Roth and here is what the HOSTEL-man had to say: “I’m writing it with Jeff Rendell, whom I co-wrote the first one with, and he will play The Pilgrim, as he did in the trailer. In a perfect world, the film would transcend cinema and ruin the holiday for everyone, so that fifty years from now at a Thanksgiving dinner someone says, ‘I’m sorry, I can’t eat, that stupid movie ruined it for me’.”
Alright. Hopefully, Mr. Roth is just joking around about the whole “ruin the holiday” stuff. Not that I wouldn’t like that to happen. It’s just that if it didn’t happen (and he wasn’t joking), I wouldn’t want Eli to get all upset and swear off making horror flicks for a while again (which kinda happened after a less-than-stellar response was given to his baby, HOSTEL PART II). I just feel that Roth definitely has a creative knack for horror and don’t want him to get discouraged.
