Actor Lewis Tan teased that we were going to get a first look at the upcoming Mortal Kombat reboot and now Warner Bros. has made good on that promise by releasing the first images from the R-rated take on the popular video game franchise.

The images are pretty exciting and show enough to get an idea of where the film is headed but they also leave a lot of mystery of what's to come so fans shouldn't be worried about spoilers when viewing the photos. The new Mortal Kombat is set to debut in theaters and on HBO MAX in April and it features a cast of fighters ready to engage in bloody fatalities. The cast includes Mehcad Brooks as Jackson "Jax" Briggs, Chin Han as Shang Tsung, Hiroyuki Sanada as Scorpion, Joe Taslim as Sub-Zero, Tadanobu Asano as Raiden, Ludi Lin as Liu Kang, Sisi Stringer as Mileena, Josh Lawson as Kano, Jessica McNamee as Sonya Blade, Max Huang as Kung Lao Max, and Lewis Tan as an all-new character. You can check out the first look images below:

Before these images were released, very few details were revealed about the new Mortal Kombat, other than it was going to be very different from the 1995 adaptation by going with an R-rating, details that made fans very happy. The film is directed by Simon McQuoid and is produced by James Wan and Todd Garner. This new take seems more in line with what Mortal Kombat fans would expect from a true film adaptation but the 1995 film still does hold a special place in people's hearts more than 25 years after its release. I know this list isn't a distinguished one but, many consider the film to be one of the best video game adaptations to date.

What are YOUR thoughts on the new images? Are YOU looking forward to the new Mortal Kombat? The fight starts when the film hits theaters and HBO Max on April 16, 2021.
