Most Dangerous Game: Roku renews Christoph Waltz series for season 2

The Christoph Waltz series Most Dangerous Game is setting a second shot at Roku. The streaming device maker has renewed the show for a second season after it began its life at the now-defunct short-form streamer Quibi. The show was one of more than 70 series that Roku acquired when it bought the Quibi library earlier this year.

Christoph Waltz will be reprising his role as Miles Sellars, the head of the game which has very wealthy people paying to hunt humans for prey. New to the cast is David Castañeda, who will be playing Victor Suero, a down-on-his-luck fighter, who will do anything to protect his sister when he learns she’s in trouble. To protect her, he agrees to participate in a deadly game. If he survives, he’ll make a fortune. Castañeda takes over the lead player role from Liam Hemsworth, who starred in season one.

Nick Santora will be returning as showrunner and Roku will continue the same format as season one which means they will be short-form episodes, the model that Quibi sold itself on. The second season is set to film in New York City and a premiere date will be announced at a later time. Head of scripted at Roku, Colin Davis, had this to say about renewing the series for a second season:

“Audiences gravitated towards the dynamic storytelling and uncompromising action of season one. Nick Santora’s script for season two takes the thrill to the next level in New York and with David Castañeda joining Christoph Waltz, it was an easy decision to bring Most Dangerous Game back for another season.”

Like all of the other shows Roku acquired from Quibi, Most Dangerous Game has been rebranded as Roku Originals. The series joins the Kevin Hard-led comedy Die Hart, which also scored a second season on Roku after being acquired by Quibi.
