The Weinsteins, seeing a year where everything they’ve released has landed with a thud but one – HALLOWEEN – are in the process of turning The Weinstein Company into Dimension v.2 as they’re snatching up horror flicks left and right at the Toronto Film Festival.
First they acquired DIARY OF THE DEAD (brief question: How do you think an independent, studio-hating maverick like Romero is going to get along with suits who are notorious for being interfering and stubborn?), now it looks like, along with Anchor Bay, they’re picking up Argento’s THE MOTHER OF TEARS. They’ve also bought up the bloody French thriller INSIDE (supposedly the most f*cked up movie to play the fest this year).
Anchor Bay recently released HATCHET in a limited amount of theaters, so with The Weinsteins aboard it would certainly seem like MOTHER will be hitting the big screen at some point. Now it’s just a matter of when. (Note to Bob and Harvey: Keep your f*ckin’ scissors away from these films!)
