Agents of S.H.I.E.L.D.’s Ruth Negga cast as Tulip in AMC’s Preacher pilot

Preacher Ruth Negga

The pilot for AMC's planned Preacher series from Seth Rogen and Evan Goldberg has found its Tulip O'Hare in the form of Agents of S.H.I.E.L.D.'s star Ruth Negga. Deadline (who were the first to break the news) describes Tulip as "a volatile, action-packed, sexified force of nature, a capable, unrepentant criminal with a love of fashion and ability to construct helicopter-downing bazookas out of coffee cans and corn shine who’s not afraid to steal, kill or corn cob-stab her way out of a bad situation."

Besides her Raina role on Agents of S.H.I.E.L.D., Negga has also appeared on the E4 series Misfits as Nikki, and will be playing Lady Taria in Duncan Jones' WARCRAFT.

Although Tulip O'Hare is white with blonde hair in the comics, Ruth Negga is an Ethiopian-Irish actress. That may annoy some hardcore fans of the Garth Ennis and Steve Dillon comic book series, but personally I have absolutely no problem with Negga playing Tulip.

Production on Preacher is set to begin this summer for series consideration in 2016, with Agent Carter's Dominic Cooper possibly playing Jesse Custer, Tulip's ex-boyfriend who is on a mission to find God. What are your thoughts on Ruth Negga playing Tulip O'Hare?
