Disney XD’s poster and promo for the animated Tron: Uprising series zooms online

Tron: Uprising, a new film-to-animation series from Disney XD, is headed our way this summer and now we have a look at a promo and poster for the show. Set between the 1982 film, TRON and the 2010 sequel, TRON: LEGACY, the show tracks the events that transpired between films, effectively bridging the gap between them (which TRON: LEGACY covered in a brief flashback sequence).

Here’s the promo:

Much like Star Wars: The Clone Wars animated series, the time span between films allows for more exploration into the universe of The Grid. I have heard from a source on the project that the series is like this generation’s Batman: The Animated Series with involved stories and great action, as well as the signature flash and design of the films.  It is geared towards all age groups, but won’t have the goofball humor you see in XD’s Ultimate Spider-Man.

Here’s the official synopsis:

Produced by Disney Television Animation, the series follows Beck, a young program who becomes the unlikely leader of a revolution inside the computer world of The Grid. His mission is to free his home and friends from the reign of the villainous Clu and his henchman General Tesler. Beck will be trained by Tron – the greatest warrior the Grid has ever known. Tron will not only teach Beck the fighting skills he needs to challenge this brutal military occupation, but will be a guide and mentor to him as he grows beyond his youthful, impulsive nature into a courageous, powerful leader. Destined to become the new protector of the system, Beck adopts Tron’s persona and becomes the archenemy of Tesler and his oppressive forces.

I’m pretty stoked for this.  I really enjoyed TRON: LEGACY and this style of animation feels fitting for the series.  With a great voice cast, featuring Elijah Wood, Emmanuelle Chriqui, Mandy Moore, Nate Corddry, Lance Henriksen, Paul Reubens (aka Pee-Wee Herman), Reginald VelJohnson and the original Tron himself, Bruce Boxleitner, this looks to be a kick ass series.

Tron: Uprising premieres on Disney XD this June.
