Idris Elba joins Harmony Korine’s The Trap and possibly Star Trek 3

Idris Elba signing up for more movies is always a good thing, and this just means I have a few more films to add to my 'Must See' list. This first film will be the newest endeavor from writer/director Harmony Korine, who made a splash in 2013 with SPRING BREAKERS. His latest and greatest, THE TRAP, follows gangster rap artist Rico (Idris Elba) and his best friend Slim (Benicio Del Toro), who took the fall for a robbery the duo committed. 14 years later, Slim is released from prison and finds Rico at the top of his career and about to enjoy a triumphant night at the Grammy Awards. If that wasn't enough, Rico is also married to his girlfriend and has been raising Slim's son as his own. This revenge tale will also star Al Pacino as Slim's parole officer, Robert Pattinson as a member of an uzi-weilding surfer group and James Franco as Rico's cocaine-induced manager. Now THAT sounds like entertainment!

Elsewhere in the galaxy, word is that Idris Elba is also being talked to about playing the villain in Justin Lin's STAR TREK 3. The script, being written by Simon Pegg and Doug Jung, is still being kept under wraps but there's no shortage of villains that Elba could bring to life. Human, Klingon or Meat Popsicle, I'm pretty sure the man could do it all. If he does sign on, he'd of course join the returning cast consisting of Chris Pine, Zachary Quinto, Simon Pegg, Karl Urban, Zoe Saldana and Anton Yelchin. Regardless of how you feel about the re-booted Trek movies thus far, you can't deny that they pull together a great ensemble cast.

Harmony Korine's THE TRAP will go into production later this year, with STAR TREK INTO ELBA hopefully hitting theaters on July 8, 2016.
