John Boyega open to Star Wars return

John Boyega, Star Wars, Finn

It's no secret that John Boyega wasn't exactly a fan of Finn's arc in the Star Wars Sequel Trilogy, and the actor even went so far as to imply that he was done with the franchise altogether after the release of Star Wars: The Rise of Skywalker. It's easy to see where Boyega is coming from; although Finn was arguably just as important as Rey (Daisy Ridley) in The Force Awakens, subsequent movies found Finn's role diminishing in favour of Rey and Kylo Ren (Adam Driver).

Despite his criticisms, John Boyega still loves Star Wars, and in a resurfaced 2020 interview with Jake Hamilton, the actor was asked whether or not he'd be down to return to the franchise somewhere down the road, perhaps similar to how the Original Trilogy cast reprised their roles for the Sequel Trilogy.

I am open to the conversation as long as it is Kathleen, J.J., and maybe someone else and the team, it's a no-brainer.

That said, John Boyega added that he'd want more of a say when it came to the story if he were involved with more Star Wars. "This time, I’m sorry, I’d just be a bit more adamant about story," Boyega explained. "And I think everybody would. I think even Oscar, even Daisy. I think everybody would be kind of like, if we are going to come back, hopefully, the story is worth us coming back. Or maybe, perhaps, some new characters that we help and we facilitate." As someone who loved the character of Finn, I'd certainly welcome John Boyega's return. What about you?

Although John Boyega may not be stepping into Finn's shoes again anytime soon, there is one role from the past that he will be reprising. It was announced earlier this month that Boyega would be reuniting with Joe Cornish for a sequel to Attack the Block. The film followed a teenage gang in South London (led by Boyega's Moses) as they're forced to defend their block from an alien invasion. "It’s been a decade since Attack The Block was released and so much has changed since then," Boyega said. "I’m excited to see this heightened story return to the streets of London. Moses has remained one of my favourite characters to play and bringing him back is a huge honour."
