John Wick 4: Shamier Anderson signs on to join Keanu Reeves

With Keanu Reeves readying himself to toss a few bullets into numerous skulls, the cast of the upcoming John Wick 4 is starting to come together. It was announced today that Shamier Anderson, who recently starred alongside Toni Collette, Anna Kendrick and Daniel Dae Kim in Stowaway, has joined the cast of John Wick: Chapter 4.

"It’s a thrill to be working with an actor of Shamier’s caliber. He’s proven exceptional with drama and action and is a compelling presence on screen," Director Chad Stahelski said in a statement. It's not known just who Shamier Anderson will be playing in John Wick 4, but the sequel already includes Japanese-British pop superstar Rina Sawayama and Donnie Yen, who joined the cast yesterday. Yen is said to be playing an old friend of Reeve's John Wick, who "shares his same history and many of the same enemies." Production on John Wick: Chapter 4 will kick off this summer on location in France, Germany, and Japan. During a Lionsgate earnings call last summer, CEO John Feltheimer had mentioned that they were hoping to shoot the next two installments of the John Wick franchise back-to-back, but according to a report from Collider back in March, that plan seems to have been abandoned for now. John Wick: Chapter 4 is currently slated for a May 27, 2022 release.

Our own JimmyO reviewed Stowaway when it debuted on Netflix in April, and although he didn't love the film, he did single out Shamier Anderson for praise, saying that he brought the "most impressive emotional arc" to his character. You can check out the rest of Jimmy's review right here. Anderson will next be seen starring alongside Gina Rodriguez in Awake, a sci-fi thriller set to debut on Netflix on June 9th.
