Updated: Jessica Chastain offered lead role in season 2 of True Detective

UPDATE: Well, as cool as this rumor was, it's been debunked. According to E! Online, Chastain is NOT taking a role for True Detective, which has also been confirmed by HBO. Damn. We were so close, people. – PS

Last week it was rumored Brad Pitt was set to star in the second season of True Detective, and now Nerdist is reporting an offer has been made to Pitt's TREE OF LIFE co-star Jessica Chastain for one of the leads. The site also says Chastain hasn't accepted the offer yet, and representatives for the actress declined to comment when asked about her possibly joining the series.

Earlier this year writer/creator Nic Pizzolatto teased there might be at least one female detective in the new season of True Detective, and at the time a few of you thought Jessica Chastain would be a great fit for the drama. I think it would be a win-win situation for Jessica Chastain and HBO if she does sign on for True Detective, but this is only a rumor at this point, so we'll have to wait and see how this plays out.

Jessica Chastain and True Detective season one lead Matthew McConaughey (Hmmm, wonder if he has anything to do with this?) both star in Christopher Nolan's upcoming INTERSTELLAR, and the sci-fi flick will be in theaters on November 7th, 2014.
