The final frontier arrives with the first trailer for Star Trek: Discovery

Last Updated on July 31, 2021

Just this morning we finally got our first real look at CBS' Star Trek: Discovery thanks to the release of a photo which showed off Michelle Yeoh as Captain Philippa Georgiou and Sonequa Martin-Green as First Officer Michael Burnham. During CBS' Upfront presentation, the first trailer for Star Trek: Discovery was unveiled and gave us a glimpse at all the strange new worlds and wonderous alien creatures which we'll be exploring in Star Trek's return to the small-screen. Check it out!

It's certainly quite visually impressive, and although the series is supposed to take place in the Prime universe and not J.J. Abrams' Kelvin universe, it appears that they've borrowed more than a few elements from the rebooted movies. That said, I'm hugely excited to see what the series will bring and what kind of stories it will tell. The trailer definitely poses a lot of questions, such as Michael Burnham's relationship with Sarak (James Frain) and those fearsome looking Klingons who look quite unlike any we've seen before.

We'll also be in store for a few more episodes as CBS has announced that they've increased their order from thirteen-episodes to fifteen. The first episode of the series will premiere on CBS later this fall, but all the subsequent episodes will stream exclusively on CBS All Access. Star Trek: Discovery will also have an aftershow, Talking Trek, which will air on CBS All Access.

What do you folks think of this trailer for Star Trek: Discovery?
