The Hobbit may have finished filming, but that doesn’t mean Peter Jackson is done with Middle Earth

As Gandalf once so very astutely observed, “I think there’s more to this hobbit than meets the eye.”

Peter Jackson’s follow-up/prequel to the Lord of the Rings trilogy finished filming not all that long ago, Jackson went on record at Comic-Con saying that he wants to shoot more footage. This may or may not be because he’s just that kind of guy/artist/storyteller/all around stellar human being.

Jackson went on to say that should this extra footage be shot (and let’s be fair – how will it not), could then become one of two things: 1) an extended cut of the already-planned two parts OR 2) a third part entirely.

I’m just going to leave that there and slowly back away as I wrap this up.

THE HOBBIT: AN UNEXPECTED JOURNEY arrives on December 14th, 2012.
THE HOBBIT: THERE AND BACK AGAIN arrives on December 13th, 2013.

Does this mean you should automatically expect THE HOBBIT: ALL THE EXTRA BITS on December 12th, 2014? Of course not.  But the mind boggles at what might come to pass should Jackson get his wish, and I truly cannot wait to find out.

And while we’re on the subject of Jackson’s gleeful return to Middle Earth, make sure to stay tuned for more details from our crew at the Con on this site!
