Tom Hardy’s Venom sequel gets a title and release date change

If your Spider-sense is suddenly going off the charts, it could be because the title for Tom Hardy's VENOM sequel has been revealed!

According to a recent Twitter post from Exhibitor Relations, Sony's Venom sequel will be titled VENOM: LET THERE BE CARNAGE. In addition to the title reveal, it's been said that the film is moving from its original October 2, 2020 release date to June 25, 2021. While we all widely assumed the October 2020 slot was the VENOM sequel, Sony never officially announced the Tom Hardy anti-hero flick's release date. This change serves as both acknowledgement that Andy Serkis' sequel was ready for Halloween but also how central Woody Harrelson's serial killer villain is going to be.

In addition to Hardy returning as Eddie Brock / Venom, the upcoming sequel will also find Woody Harrelson back on the symbiotic scene as the serial killer Cletus Kasady, who after bonding with his own version of the alien parasite, transforms into the villain Carnage. Naturally, the sequel will follow the events shown in the post-credits scene for VENOM, in which we are introduced to Harrelson's incarcerated Cletus Kasady, curly crimson locks and all.

Directing VENOM: LET THERE BE CARNAGE is mo-cap mastermind Andy Serkis, with VENOM co-writer Kelly Marcel returning to pen the sequel's script. Meanwhile, Michelle Williams is set to reprise her role as Anne Weying from the 2018 original, with Naomie Harris also expected to star as the villain Shriek, Carnage's love interest.

I suppose the question now is: How do y'all feel about the film's title, VENOM: LET THERE BE CARNAGE. I happen to think that it's totally kick ass, and the thought of Harrelson playing Kasady has me very excited! I'm also looking forward to having Serkis at the helm, who in the past has demonstrated time and again that he's mastered the art of motion-capture, a film technique that the Venom sequel is sure to have plenty of.

VENOM: LET THERE BE CARNAGE will now open in theaters on June 25, 2021.
