like everyone and their uncle Johnny from back home is jumping on
the “sequel” bandwagon, and that includes films that
have yet to be released in the first place, like Kevin Costner’s
latest entitled MR.
BROOKS, in which he plays a regular Joe who also just happens
to be a creepy serial killer…on the side. Speaking to EW magazine
recently, Costner said of his role in the film: “I
wasn’t dying to do a role like this… But when I read it, I thought
the writers found an amazing window into the subject matter. Now I
feel this is as strong a performance as I’ve ever given.”
Stronger than the one you gave in THE BIG CHILL?? Say it ain’t so,
Kev.
Costner went on to say,
that even though he’s never been keen on sequels, “I
haven’t done TIN CUP 2, BULL DURHAM 2 or OPEN RANGE: THE EARLY
YEARS…but this one was written with the idea that we would do a
couple of others.“, the ideas they presented to him
about this film’s possible continuation, made “the
hairs on the back of my neck stand up. We’re hoping this little
movie develops a following so that we can play this story out the
way it should.” Honestly, I’m pretty much against most
sequels that are made for the sakes of the dinero, but in this case,
I quite liked the film’s
creepy first trailer, so who knows. Also…sign me up for that
OPEN RANGE: THE EARLY YEARS movie…good shit!! MR. BROOKS opens on
June 1st.
