Mr. Robot’s Rami Malek joins Papillon remake in Dustin Hoffman role

MR. ROBOT has taken the world of cable television by storm since it came out of nowhere and really blew away the audience that found it on USA Network. As a result, the series has generated a lot of interest in seeing its star Rami Malek work more outside of the show.

Those fans should then be thrilled to hear that Malek is in negotiations to join the cast of the PAPILLON remake, which also stars  Charlie Hunnam. Hunnam will be filling the role originated by Steve McQueen in the 1973 film, while Malek will be playing Dustin Hoffman's part. Michael Noer (NORTHWEST) is attached to direct, working with a script from PRISONERS' Aaron Guzikowski

The original, based on the memoirs of Henri Charriere, told the story of a petty criminal wrongly convicted of murder who hatches a plot to escape from the penal colony where he's held with the assistance of an interesting counterfeiter – which is where Malek comes in.

Malek can currently be seen on Season Two of MR. ROBOT, airing now on USA.
