MTV is developing a War of the Worlds TV series, for some reason

So, get this. MTV is developing a TV show based on H. G. Wells' War of the Worlds, from the team behind Teen Wolf. Are we being punished for something? Look, I have nothing against MTV's trend of converting popular teen movies into TV series. I've never seen Teen Wolf, but people seem to like it. And Scream is silly but fun. But how do they think they can convert Wells' massive alien invasion epic into their typical low budget, music-packed, teen show format?

The show will be written by Andrew Cochran and executive produced by Jeff Davis, along with The Firm’s Josh Barry and Jeff Kwatinetz. This is a personal project for Barry, whose grandfather Gene Barry appeared in the 1953 Byron Haskin WAR OF THE WORLDS.

This is either going to be an epic disaster or one of the best bad ideas anybody has ever had. Just imagine it. Fade in, a messy teen's bedroom. Katy Perry's "E. T." blares on the clock radio (do people still have those?). A breaking news report cuts through the pop, and off we go!
