MTV officially orders 12 episodes of the Teen Wolf series

In a pretty ballsy move, Deadline is reporting that MTV has officially ordered 12 episodes of TEEN WOLF, their new TV series based on the ‘classic’ werewolf comedy from 1985 starring Michael J. Fox. Why so ballsy? Besides assuming that kids today would be into something that was popular 25 years ago, MTV hasn’t let anyone (outside of MTV, of course) check out the pilot to the series, which was directed by legit horror director Russell Mulcahy (see that story HERE).

So based on nothing but assumptions, the series has been greenlit, and 12 episodes (plus the pilot) will be coming our way soon enough. As a reminder, the show goes a little something like this:

TEEN WOLF is a dramatic thriller with a buddy-comedy element at the center and a romantic plot line
. It revolves around Scott McCall (Tyler Posey), a dorky high-school student who gets a rush of new powers, including the ability to attract girls, after a wolf attack.

Crystal Reed and Dylan O’Brien also co-star (don’t ask, I don’t know who they are either) in the show, written by Jeff Davis (creator of CRIMINAL MINDS). Will MTV’s decision to make an entire season pay off? Maybe… maybe not. I’m still not sure a TV show based on TEEN WOLF will survive today’s teen audiences, but then again, this is the age of NEW MOON, so a show about werewolves isn’t too far fetched–as pussied down as it might be.

No word on air dates or anything like that, so stick around as we find out more about MTV’s TEEN WOLF as we hear it!
