Munroe wants Zombo

I just got done telling you about Kevin Munroe’s next project and now I’m here to tell you on what the TMNT director might be working on after that.

Bloody Disgusting recently caught up with Munroe to talk a bit about DEAD OF NIGHT and WAR MONKEYS. During the chat Munroe expressed his interest in bringing an EL ZOMBO adaptation to the big screen. Apparently Munroe feels it would be a great fit for his new production company, which he partnered with Chris Patton and Robert Sanchez in creating. He hopes to get the wheels turning after he’s done with WAR MONKEYS.

EL ZOMBO is a comic series from Dark Horse. BD gives the lengthly description of ZOMBO as a story about the unlikely friendship between a temperamental undead wrestler and an equally difficult 10-year-old girl from East L.A. Pro wrestling champ El Zombo gets a second lease on life after being unceremoniously murdered in a back alley for refusing to take a dive in the ring. His deal is to return to Earth to help Belisa Montoya – a troubled girl about to fall victim to a horrible unknown accident. Returning at first for selfish reasons of revenge, El Zombo soon finds himself at a crossroads, forced to choose between his own vengeance and saving the life of this girl he now deeply cares for.

Alright, I’d be down for seeing this on the big screen. Just a heads up, no deal is done or even in place it seems. Munroe is just throwing the word out there that this is what he’d like to tackle next. Keep it here for any more updates on the potential EL ZOMBO adaptation as we hear them.
