Netflix has tapped Jeremy Garelick to direct a Murder Mystery sequel, with Adam Sandler and Jennifer Aniston expected to reprise their roles from the original Netflix comedy. The film is being put on the fast track with plans to shoot in Paris and the Caribbean. James Vanderbilt will pen the script, and then Garelick will give it a once over and tailor it to his specifications.
In Murder Mystery, a New York cop (Sandler) and his wife (Aniston) go on a European vacation to reinvigorate the spark in their marriage but end up getting framed and going on the run for the death of an elderly billionaire.
Garelick wrote The Break-Up, which starred Aniston and Vince Vaughn. He made his feature directorial debut in 2015 by helming The Wedding Ringer, which starred Kevin Hart, Josh Gad, and Kaley Cuoco. Garelick also spends a great deal of his time building out American High, a production company he co-founded with Mickey Liddell’s LD Entertainment. American High specializes in creating comedies made with a modest budget. Two projects that fly beneath the American High banner include the Vince Vaughn-directed The Binge for Hulu and the Pete Davidson-fronted Big Time Adolescence for Hulu and Neon. The studio recently wrapped production on Sex Appeal, starring Mika Abdalla and Jake Short. The film will serve as Talia Osteen’s directorial debut.
