Today the boy’s at B-D got the scoop that Lionsgate is developing a remake of the 1981 classic slasher MY BLOODY VALENTINE. Given, the term ‘classic’ here is used loosely, as it’s not the greatest movie ever made (and probably remembered more for it’s awesome poster), but it sure as shit is fun and is a great example of the 80s slasher film.
No real details were given, other than the film is in development, and Lionsgate is out looking for writers to write the damn thing. The original was about a psycho miner stalking the town of Valentine’s Bluff on the night of the annual Valentine’s Day Dance. Silly premise? You bet. Awesome fodder for some good ol’ slasher fun? Totally! Need remaking? No way!
Maybe 10 years ago the idea of remaking this wouldn’t sound so bad, but with the trend of remaking horror these days (for the most part, badly), I just can’t see this ending up being a ‘good’ movie. Nothing’s official at this point (there’s still hope it won’t happen), so keep it here as we either confirm or debunk the actuality of this remake.
