It’s time for a new episode of our WTF Happened to This Horror Movie? video series, and in this one we’re taking a look at the penultimate film from legendary master of horror Wes Craven, the 2010 release My Soul to Take (watch it HERE). Craven wrote, produced, and directed My Soul to Take, but it’s not as highly regarded as some of the other films he made over the years, and not very well remembered. In the video embedded above, we try to find out why My Soul to Take wasn’t a hit.
My Soul to Take has the following synopsis:
In the small town of Riverton, a local legend tells of a serial killer’s oath to come back and kill the seven children who were born on the night he supposedly died. Now 16 years later, Riverton residents are disappearing again, making some wonder if the legend is true. Bug, plagued by nightmares all his life, is one of the so-called Riverton Seven, and it’s up to him to save his friends from an evil that will not rest.
The film stars Max Thieriot, Denzel Whitaker, Raul Esparza, Shareeka Epps, John Magaro, Zena Grey, Nick Lashaway, Jeremy Chu, Paulina Olszynski, Emily Meade, Jessica Hecht, Alexandra Wilson, Danai Gurira, and Frank Grillo.
This is what the WTF Happened to This Horror Movie series is all about:
Hollywood has had its fair share of historically troubled productions. Whether it was casting changes, actor deaths, fired directors, in-production rewrites, constant delays, budget cuts or studio edits, these films had every intention to be a blockbuster, but were beset with unforeseen disasters. Sometimes huge hits, sometimes box office bombs. Either way, we have to ask: WTF Happened To This Horror Movie?
The My Soul to Take episode of WTF Happened to This Horror Movie was Written by Emilie Black, Edited by Brandon Nally, Narrated by Jason Hewlett, Produced by Lance Vlcek and John Fallon, and Executive Produced by Berge Garabedian.
