Mysterio flies into action in new Spider-Man: Far From Home clip

Ever since we saw the first trailer for the upcoming Spider-Man movie, SPIDER-MAN: FAR FROM HOME, we were introduced to the possibility the web-head could be upstaged in his own movie by none other than Mysterio, played by Jake Gyllenhaal. The character made his superhero landing, rocking his sweet cape and armor, all before donning a fishbowl helm and fighting a water monster. Now in the new clip from the movie, Mysterio literally flies in to save the day while Peter Parker (Tom Holland) sits back soaking and costume-less. Can’t always be the star, Spidey.

The scene opens with an Elemental (one of several we’ve seen teased in trailers) running amok, only for Peter to have to contend with him without his special suit. After realizing webs don’t do so well against, you know, water creatures, he tries to do damage control and save local citizens. That is until Mysterio/Quentin Beck shows up with his special powers and pushes back the watery baddie.

There’s much more to this clip that we will see in less than two weeks, and if what you saw seemed fun, then that’s only a crumb of the deliciousness the first critics to see the movie have cheered the movie as. Our own Eric Walkuski said the movie is a “worthy follow-up” to HOMECOMING, and that Gyllenhaal is having a “blast” as Mysterio. Other critics have praised the humor, story and the continuation from ENDGAME, with some proclaiming it’s the best Spider-Man movie yet.

I've got my tickets for FAR FROM HOME, and while we still have a week and change left to go, something tells me people are going to maybe check this movie out. Perhaps a lot of people, so best get on it.

SPIDER-MAN: FAR FROM HOME is in theaters July 2.
