The previous snake-woman films don’t address two aspects of the legend. This being is also a fertility goddess, and even today there are scores of snake temples in India where barren women come to pray for a child. The other part of the legend is the ‘Naag-mani,’ a magical stone that the male cobra guards. If there is any danger, it swallows the stone, and if one tries to extract it after killing the snake, it vaporizes.
Whoa. Who even knew? Oh yeah… the millions living in India, Thai Land, Hong Kong, and Cambodia. I guess my white ass is the last to know about these things! Color me intrigued though, especially the part about the Naagin being a fertility goddess, as that implies there will be some snake-women sex to be had. Sweet!
Menon also goes on about how this film will likely kick-start more Bollywood films going global, as they are becoming more and more popular world-wide. He also described NAAGIN as the world’s first creature feature/horror/musical/love story, which in itself is pretty whoa-inducing.
