Well Variety are dropping word today on Nakata’s (above) next project: CHATROOM. All we’re told is that the psychological thriller will center on teenagers who encourage each other’s destructive behavior. Interesting. Intrigued?
CHATROOM will be Nakata’s first attempt at an original English movie. It’s being produced by Ruby Films’ Alison Owen and Paul Trijbits as well as Laura Hastings-Smith. Lensing is pegged to start in the UK this Spring. The script will come from Enda Walsh, which is an adaptation of his own stage play. WestEnd Films will be selling the movie. WestEnd’s founder Eve Schoukroun had the following to say:
“Nakata has come up with something very visual, very conceptual, and situated somewhere between ‘DISTURBIA’ and ‘CUBE.'”
That actually sounds like it might be pretty cool… but it’s still to early to tell. We’ll be keeping an eye on CHATROOM and we’ll drop you any updates once we hear them.
