With news of Peter Jackson at the KING KONG premiere a couple days ago in New York with the original stop motion armature (from the amazing collection of Bob Burns, no less), it seems only right to bring this up.
Sideshow Collectibles is at it again with their classic horror movie memorabilia. This time with a reproduction of the 1933 armature mentioned above. In actuality, there were two armatures used for the film. The two puppets had distinguishably different heads, one used in the log bridge and T-Rex battle sequences, and the other used for all of the New York scenes and the balance of the Skull Island scenes. This Sideshow version is of the T-Rex battle armature, which is so accurate, you could recreate the stop-motion scenes yourself!
Each element of Kong’s metal skeleton has been replicated to exacting standards, from flexible fingers to working jaws. The surface of each skeletal part recreates the texture and tool marks from the original fabrication, even the aging and weathering of the piece has been replicated. The armature is complete with a high quality display base featuring a ‘Kong’ nameplate. The retail for this is $474.99, but if you pre-order before December 31st, you save $25.
