Update:
After dazzling audiences (and teaching them a thing or two about equality) with 2022’s Barbie, Greta Gerwig is back with a fantasy epic set to a rock ‘n’ roll soundtrack with Narnia: The Magician’s Nephew. Netflix unveiled a poster for the upcoming film yesterday, but today, we’re getting a spectacular trailer for Gerwig’s next blockbuster!
Set to Led Zeppelin’s “Stairway to Heaven,” the new trailer finds David McKenna (Digory Kirke) and Beatrice Campbell (Polly Plummer) discovering a curious new world after investigating magical items housed in an elaborate attic. As events unfold, the kids experience wonder like never before, with Daniel Craig (Andrew Ketterley) as their peculiar guide. While wandering the new world, the kids run afoul of the White Witch (Emma Mackey), whose rock opera-inspired antics cast a dangerous spell across the land.

After defying expectations with Barbie, Greta Gerwig is stepping away from the world of blonde bombshell icons for something more fanciful and extraordinary. Today, Netflix debuted a poster for Gerwig’s Narnia: The Magician’s Nephew. The new print teases the film’s February 12, 2027, release in theaters, as well as news that the project’s first trailer arrives tomorrow!
The new poster for Narnia: The Magician’s Nephew features a silhouette of the enigmatic lion Aslan, set against a cosmic background. At the same time, two characters ride atop a pegasus with starlight refracting off its majestic form. The promo is as mysterious as it is intriguing.
Sung into Being: Gerwig’s Rock ‘n’ Roll Narnia
If you look at previous images from the film, you’ll notice it has a different style from the previous Narnia movies, with Gerwig explaining that she took inspiration from the British rock music scene of the ’60s and ’70s.
“David Bowie saved my life. Paul McCartney saved my life. David Gilmour saved my life. Pete Townshend saved my life. Jimmy Page, Robert Plant…” she said. “When I heard their music, I had this deep sense of [thinking], ‘You’re gonna be okay.’… Narnia is literally a world made out of music. It is a world sung to life by Aslan, and rock n’ roll to me felt like a world made out of music.”

Leading up to the film, Gerwig has been vocal about her Narnia film being a dream come true, as she’s been a fan of the otherworldly universe since childhood.
“I was a child when I first read The Magician’s Nephew, and I fell in love with the gorgeously improbable but completely brilliant concept of a cosmic lion singing the world of Narnia to life. I didn’t know that I would grow up to make films, but a universe built out of music is an idea that always lived in my heart. It is the honor of a lifetime to be asked to imagine it into being. Because of C. S. Lewis’s The Chronicles of Narnia, I believed in magic and hidden worlds and adventure. I believed that anywhere could be enchanted and that anyone could be swept up into an epic. That wonder and awe was available to everyone, even ordinary people like me…It transformed me.”
A Star-Studded Cast for C.S. Lewis’s Prequel
Gerwig directs Narnia: The Magician’s Nephew from her own script. David McKenna, Beatrice Campbell, Emma Mackey, Carey Mulligan, and Ciarán Hinds lead the cast, alongside Daniel Craig, Meryl Streep, Kobna Holdbrook-Smith, Denise Gough, and Susan Wokoma.
Sneak previews in IMAX will begin on February 10, with the global wide release two days later, and the film will drop on Netflix on April 2, 2027. It’s the first Netflix movie to get such a wide release.
