This film, much like SEVENTH SON, is just one of those pictures you keep hearing about over the years and go, "Oh…yeah. That's a movie." For those uninitiated, JANE GOT A GUN was to be helmed by Lynne Ramsay (WE NEED TO TALK ABOUT KEVIN) until she left on the first day of shooting and was replaced by Gavin O'Connor (WARRIOR). The film's also seen several actors cycle in and out, including Bradley Cooper, Michael Fassbender and Jude Law. Fortunately Ewan McGregor stuck around long enough for filming to complete, although he's nowhere to be found in these new pictures. Instead, we have the delectable Natalie Portman and the always reliable Joel Edgerton giving us their best western posturing.

It never looks good when you read about production troubles of this magnitude, but O'Connor delivered some palpable drama in WARRIOR and perhaps he can bring that sense of weight to the characters in JANE GOT A GUN. Frankly, I'd love to see more directors tackle westerns given the amount of detail and sense of authenticity projects like Deadwood, 3:10 TO YUMA and TRUE GRIT were able to offer. At the very least, JANE GOT A GUN has some serious talent working in its favor.

JANE GOT A GUN will hit theaters on September 4.
