Natalie Portman loads her rifle for western Jane Got A Gun

Remember back when Natalie Portman was “furious” with Marvel for not keeping Patty Jenkins (MONSTER) on as director for THOR 2? Whether Jenkins was right for the project or not, I say it’s quite understandable if Portman wants more female directors involved in telling those sorts of action-heavy, genre-type stories.  And it seems that she may at last have gotten her wish, as Lynne Ramsay (WE NEED TO TALK ABOUT KEVIN) is currently attached to direct Portman in a western called JANE GOT A GUN.

The 2011 Black List script by one Brian Duffield “centers on a woman whose outlaw husband returns home riddled with bullet wounds and barely alive. When her husband’s gang eventually tracks him down to finish the job, she is forced to reach out to an ex-lover and ask if he will help defend her farm.”  Reading that synopsis I am actually a bit disappointed as I wish she didn’t have to ask the ex-lover for help, since the combined talents of Ramsay and Portman could have easily turned this into the female version of THE OUTLAW JOSEY WALES.  Then again, maybe that ex-lover isn’t so centric to her salvation and I should just shut up and wait until we can see the film for itself.

Reportedly a bidding war has erupted in Cannesbased on the package of director, script, and star, so hopefully we’ll hear more soon.
