Natalie Portman says she’s open to return to the Star Wars universe

The prequel trilogy of Star Wars has been getting some love, care of the new Disney+ shows. Ewan McGregor returned to the iconic role of Obi-Wan Kenobi for the limited series that outlined the events that followed Revenge of the Sith in Obi-Wan Kenobi, which also saw the return of Hayden Christensen as Anakin Skywalker in a flashback and his incarnation at the time as Darth Vader. Additionally, Christensen got to reprise his role as Skywalker in the newest Star Wars series on Disney+, Ahsoka. Two actors who have seemingly been able to stray from exclusive ties to the image of the prequels are Natalie Portman and Samuel L. Jackson. Both have also been equally proud of their time and their legacy in the films.

Variety reports that Portman appeared on Watch What Happens Live to promote her upcoming Netflix movie, May December, where she revealed that she’s interested in returning to Star Wars should the opportunity arrive. She admitted that “no one has asked,” but she has stated that “I’m open to it.” Portman added, “It was the first time I worked digitally. I don’t think anyone was shooting that way then. It was my first time working with a green screen. It was a whole new set of skills to pick up and a whole new world to enter.”

George Lucas’ process for filming those entries would usher in a new era of blockbuster filmmaking as many films that dealt with a heavy dose of CGI environments would have their productions filmed in front of a green screen or blue screen. Portman would re-enter big franchise movies with the Thor films from Marvel Studios. She would work with Taika Waititi on Thor: Love and Thunder, who had been offered his own film in the Star Wars universe. Portman remarked that Waititi asked her if she was interested in appearing in his film, forgetting she was already a veteran of the series. “He says he did [forget] because he like asked me if I wanted to be in a Star Wars movie and I was like, ‘I was.’ I thought he was joking. He’s such a joker that I thought it was a joke. And then afterward he said in some interview that he was like cringing afterward.”
