Natalie Portman to star in Noah Hawley-directed space drama Pale Blue Dot

As we wait for Alex Garland's otherworldly sci-fi fantasy drama ANNIHILATION starring Natalie Portman to portal its way into theaters, fans of the BLACK SWAN herself can start getting excited about yet another interstellar project involving the Academy Award-winning actress has on deck.

Word has come in that Portman is undergoing negotiations to star in PALE BLUE DOT, an astronaut drama from LEGION and FARGO showrunner Noah Hawley, courtesy of Fox Searchlight. During its earlier stages of development, Dot was meant to star Reese Witherspoon, though new developments show that Reese will now produce the film alongside Bruna Papandrea.

PALE BLUE DOT centers on a married astronaut who returns to Earth after a mission and begins an affair with a fellow astronaut. She heads into a downward spiral as she loses her connection to her family, a condition that can afflict those who spend a long time in space and see how microscopic the world is, and when her lover begins another affair with an astronaut trainee, the bottom drops out.

Presented as a drama that digs deep into the heart and soul of those who've traveled beyond the stars and back, Dot is inspired by true-life astronaut love triangle in which a female mission specialist tried to kidnap a rival in 2007. The film will be scripted by Brian C. Brown and Elliott DiGuiseppi.

No production or release dates for PALE BLUE DOT have been announced at this time. Meanwhile, you can look forward to seeing Natalie Portman break the rules of our reality into pieces when she stars in Alex Garland's ANNIHILATION, which is expected to arrive in theaters beginning on February 23rd.
