Nathan Fillion debunks fan theory on who he’s playing in The Suicide Squad

Comic book adaptations are no stranger to keeping plot and character details under wraps and James Gunn's upcoming THE SUICIDE SQUAD is no different. One of those details that is still shrouded in mystery, despite fan speculation, is who SERENITY'S Nathan Fillion will be playing in the sequel. Fillion has been discussing his mysterious role recently while promoting the winter return of his ABC series The Rookie and he seems to put to rest fan theories that he'll be playing a character named Arm Fall Off Boy.

While doing an interview for SiriusXM, the actor debunks the fan theory but also seems well-trained enough by the powers that be to not give up many more details:

"That was never a comic I really dived into, so I didn't really know who that was that they were talking about, and it certainly wasn't the name I was reading in the script. So, I just said, 'Yeah, yeah, go for it. Whatever you guys think is great, so long as you're not asking-' It's so secret. It's so super, duper secret."

It's possible that Fillion is pulling our chain a bit by giving us a bit of misdirection but it's interesting that his role in the film is the one that seems to be the most guarded. It's possible he's playing a fan-favorite character that will make fans lose their minds or his character could be pretty integral to the plot of the film. Despite his denials of who he might be playing, it seems like fan speculation has gotten close to the truth which seems to make Fillion pretty nervous:

"I start to sweat a little bit when people start getting close to what I would consider something that's actually accurate. I'm the worst liar."

THE SUICIDE SQUAD is due for release next year, with the film expected to be a standalone adventure for the members of the team, though it will maintain some pieces of David Ayer's original movie. In addition to Nathan Fillion, James Gunn is bringing back Viola Davis, Joel Kinnaman, Jai CourtneyMargot Robbie will be reprising her role as Harley Quinn. They will be joined by newcomers John Cena, Idris Elba, David Dastmalchian, Taika Waititi, Pete Davidson, Peter Capaldi and more. THE SUICIDE SQUAD hits screens on August 6, 2021.
