Naughty: Olivia Wilde to direct a Christmas comedy described as Bridesmaids in the North Pole

Hollywood is leaving milk and cookies out for Olivia Wilde this holiday season with news that she’s striking a deal with LuckyChap to direct Naughty, a comedy described as Bridesmaids in the North Pole. Cocaine Bear writer Jimmy Warden wrote the script with Margot Robbie, Tom Ackerley, and Josey McNamara, producing through LuckyChap.

According to Deadline‘s exclusive report, Naughty follows Mallory, whose only hope of securing custody of her son from her gaslighting trashbag ex is to find Santa Claus in the North Pole and convince him to testify in her divorce hearing.

In case you forgot, LuckyChap produced Barbie, which earned $1.4 billion at the worldwide box office. Combine Barbie‘s success level with Wilde’s in-demand status as a filmmaker, and you’ve got a recipe for making money fall in a blizzard-like fashion.

Wilde’s next film is the biographical sports drama Perfect, starring McKenna Grace (GiftedThe Haindmaid’s Tale) and Thomasin McKenzie (Jojo RabbitLast Night in Soho). Perfect revolves around American gymnast Kerri Strug, who tries to overcome a terrible injury to compete for a gold medal in the 1996 Olympics. Wilde directs, with John P. Lopez, Ronnie Sandahl, and Kerri Strug penning the script.

Wilde is also attached to an Untitled Sony/Marvel Project. Nothing has been confirmed, but Deadline‘s Justin Kroll said in 2020 that the project is expected to revolve around Spider-Woman. Olivia Wilde will also co-write the film along with her writing partner, Katie Silberman. The project is said to be a high priority for Sony Pictures, but Wilde came close to passing as her slate began to fill up. However, the chance to launch her own female superhero franchise was hard to turn down.

In the comics, Spider-Woman is Jessica Drew, a young woman who was exposed to uranium at her father’s research facility. In an effort to save his daughter’s life, Jessica’s father injected her with an untested serum made from the blood of several uncommon species of spiders and sealed her in a genetic accelerator, which kept her in stasis. Emerging decades later, with no memories of her past, Jessica was convinced to become an assassin for HYDRA, but she soon rebelled after discovering the true nature of the organization. As Spider-Woman, Jessica Drew possesses many abilities similar to Peter Parker’s, including strength, speed, stamina, and wall-crawling, but she also has a few unique abilities, including channeling the inordinate amount of bio-electricity within her body through her hands as “Venom Blasts.”
