Dick Wolf, the creator and executive producer of NBC’s Law & Order franchise, has fired writer Craig Gore from contributing to scripts for the upcoming spinoff series revolving around Christopher Meloni’s Law & Order: SVU character Elliot Stabler. Gore's termination from the high-profile project comes after the writer posted photos to social media that depicted him holding a gun and threatening looters. Included in the comments section alongside the photos were words of warning, with Gore saying that he would “light motherfuckers up who are trying to fuck with my property" (via Variety).
Sometime after the post was brought to Wolf's attention, the NBC exec confirmed to Variety that Gore's involvement with the Law & Order spinoff had been swiftly terminated.
“I will not tolerate this conduct, especially during our hour of national grief. I am terminating Craig Gore immediately,” Dick Wolf said in his statement to the entertainment outlet.
Gore is no stranger to television after having contributed to S.W.A.T. and Chicago P.D. Not long after news of Gore's firing was made public, Christopher Meloni explained on Twitter that he has no association with Gore, and that he doesn't even know who he is. "I have no idea who this person is or what they do," said Meloni.
To add to the pile, Variety noted that S.W.A.T.'s writers' room also created their own Twitter post, which calls for “law enforcement to de-escalate conflicts, not exacerbate them.” Aaron Rahsaan Thomas, an executive producers on S.W.A.T., voiced his concerns by admitting that he's “frustrated, angry, but determined to do better. Onscreen and off.”
Gore's posts are of course a byproduct of the ongoing protests sparked by the murder of George Floyd in Minnesota. Since Floyd's death, countless citizens of the United States and beyond have called for an overhaul of the criminal justice system. The protests are ongoing with curfew measures being deployed across the country in select cities.
