Near Dark no-go!

‘Tis the season to be thankful for small miracles. Like this one: Platinum Dunes might NOT remake something! Holy shit, thank you Baby Jesus!

Actually, it’s not Baby Jesus’ doing this time around. Oddly enough, we have TWILIGHT to be grateful to. I’m astounded to say this, but TWILIGHT deserves some props for cancelling a potential butchering of a minor-classic in the horror genre. The film in question is NEAR DARK, and according to Platinum Dunes producer Brad Fuller, it’s not happening in the near future.

“Near Dark is probably not going to happen. I think that Twilight was the same type of thing we were going for although Near Dark was a much darker, sexier, rated R version of that. But I’m concerned that, conceptually, that Near Dark and Twilight are too similar in terms of a vampire movie. For now, that movie is on hold.”

I don’t necessarily think NEAR DARK is an astonishing movie or anything, but it’s one I’m willing to say “leave well enough alone” about. Besides, whenever a remake gets a stake through the heart, it’s reason to celebrate. Can we find an excuse to not remake THE BIRDS, guys? (Other than the obvious one: It can’t be topped, no matter what you do.)

TWILIGHT, I’ll give you a kiss under the mistletoe at the Christmas party. Wait, does that make me gay?
