And the che-ching driven foolishness continues!
FANGORIA recently had a chat with new on the scene screenwriter Matt
Venne (who penned the now in production White Noise 2) about his
involvement with the planned
NEAR DARK remake. Enthusiastic about the
gig, he had this to say:
“There are images in the original
film and in Eric Red and Kathryn Bigelow’s screenplay that are absolutely
beautiful. Completely dreamy and captivating. Pure poetry. It’s an
incredible project, and I’m honored to be writing it.”
Now this is not a shot at Venne whatsoever, he got a gig
he’s excited about, good for him, I wish him the best. I actually heard from
a reliable source that the WHITE NOISE 2 script was really good!
But it is a shot at the idea of remaking NEAR DARK in the
first place. NEAR DARK is (in my useless opinion of course) a horror
masterpiece on a screenplay (Expertly written by our very own site
collaborator
Eric Red), acting (Paxton, Wright, Henriksen…) and visual standpoint
(You can’t beat Kathryn Bigelow’s style man). I find it very hard to believe
that in this day and age of The Fog remake and When a Stranger Calls
remake
that ANYBODY could better it!
How about remaking films that need a tune up for today’s
audiences? NOT a film that still to this day blows current genre opus’ out
of the water faster than Jenna Jameson can swallow a load! What’s next? An EXORCIST remake? Hey we just got THE
OMEN…all bets are off! COME ON! I’m done
ranting…for now. Read more as to what Venne had to say about the project
