When I was younger, talking to girls at parties proved to be quite the challenge. There were always so many distractions and doubts barreling through my mind while searching for the perfect moment in which to introduce myself and strike up a conversation. The thing of it is, these were just normal, human girls. I can't imagine what it would be like to make an attempt at chatting up a being from another planet. Thankfully, John Cameron Mitchell has a new film coming out called HOW TO TALK TO GIRLS AT PARTIES, so that maybe today's youth will have a leg up on comfortably breaking bread with beautiful strangers.
Based on the graphic novel short story by award-winning author Neil Gaiman of the same name, Philippa Goslett and Cameron Mitchell have adapted the frizzy-haired author's tale of what happens when an alien touring the galaxy breaks away from her group and meets two young inhabitants of the most dangerous place in the universe: the London suburb of Croydon.
As you can see from the above trailer, the movie looks to be overflowing with frenetic energy as Mitchell, the helmer of HEDWIG AND THE ANGRY INCH, attempts to harness the raw power of young people discovering love in the most unlikely of places. The film stars Elle Fanning and Nicole Kidman, Alex Sharp, Ruth Wilson and Matt Lucas each playing a role in bringing Gaiman's musically-driven punk romance to the big screen.
HOW TO TALK TO GIRLS AT PARTIES will mosh its way into cinemas on December 1st.
