Neil Gaiman shows us his vision of the apocalypse with Good Omens trailer

Yesterday, author Neil Gaiman said that a trailer for his upcoming six-part television series Good Omens would be released today. As prophesied, the trailer has arrived online this morning. It's embedded below, and it makes the show look like it's going to be a whole lot of fun, even though it deals with the apocalypse and a war between good and evil. Setting the trailer to "Under Pressure" certainly helps.

Based on the novel Good Omens: The Nice and Accurate Prophecies of Agnes Nutter, which Gaiman wrote with Terry Pratchett, Good Omens is said to be "equal parts humor and horror, fantasy, drama". When the story begins,

the Apocalypse is near and Final Judgment is set to descend upon humanity. According to The Nice and Accurate Prophecies of Agnes Nutter Witch (the world's only completely accurate book of prophecies), the world will end on a Saturday. Next Saturday, in fact. Just before dinner.

So the armies of Good and Evil are amassing, Atlantis is rising, and tempers are flaring. Everything appears to be going according to Divine Plan. Except Aziraphale, a somewhat fussy angel, and Crowley, a fast-living demon—both of whom have lived amongst Earth's mortals since The Beginning and have grown rather fond of the lifestyle—are not actually looking forward to the coming war. And… someone seems to have misplaced the Antichrist.

Gaiman wrote the adaptation himself and Douglas Mackinnon directed all six episodes.

The show stars David Tennant as Crowley; Michael Sheen as Aziraphale; Adria Arjona as occultist Anathema Device; Nina Sosanya as Sister Mary Loquacious of the Chattering Order of St Beryl; Ned Dennehy as Duke of Hell Hastur; Ariyon Bakare as Duke of Hell Ligur; Jack Whitehall as witch hunter Pulsifer, a.k.a. Newt; Miranda Richardson as psychic medium / courtesan Madame Tracy; Michael McKean as Sgt. Shadwell, the leader of the witch-finder army; Jon Hamm as archangel Gabriel; Anna Maxwell Martin as Beelzebub, "the ultimate demon"; Nick Offerman as "the U.S. Ambassador and father to Warlock, the child mistaken for the Antichrist"; Mireille Enos as War; Yusuf Gatewood as Famine; Lourdes Faberes as Pollution; Brian Cox as Death; Josie Lawrence as Agnes Nutter; Frances McDormand as the voice of God; and Benedict Cumberbatch as the voice of a giant animated Satan, which we get to see a glimpse of in the trailer.

Good Omens was produced by BBC Studios, Amazon Studios, Blank Corporation, and Narrativia. Gaiman and Mackinnon served as executive producers alongside Chris Sussman, Simon Winstone, and Rob Wilkins.

The show will be available for viewing in over 200 countries and territories through the Amazon Prime streaming service as of May 31st. It will also be airing on BBC Two in the UK.
