Director Neill Blomkamp has officially revealed that he’s preparing to make a feature-length AI-generated movie, sharing a 13-minute proof-of-concept called Nightborne that serves as his first full-scale experiment with the technology. The filmmaker behind District 9, Elysium, Chappie, and Gran Turismo unveiled the project on Instagram, explaining that Nightborne was created using Seedance 2.0, marking what he calls his first complete AI film. According to his statement, Nightborne incorporates artwork from real concept artists and performances from 32 real people, rather than relying entirely on AI-generated imagery or synthetic actors. Blomkamp also revealed that Barley Studios will become the home for his AI filmmaking efforts, much like Oats Studios serves as his experimental visual effects and short film label.
